Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Party
Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
- Kattigan knows the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the group enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This results in them few options but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
